  • The University's Strategic Plan, "People, place & the planet"[1]

Climate & KULA

As the Libraries' institute of advanced studies, Kula is positioned to be an active partner with entities across campus and the community working together to address climate issues.

Specifically, Kula plays in essential role in climate dialogue through our "Liberating Knowledge Partnerships (LKP)" program. Climate change will affect communities across the globe, and librarians, archivists, and curators have an essential role to play in helping develop community-driven models of collecting and archiving knowledge before it is lost.

Archive of PCIC publications, including annual reports, articles, policy briefs, case studies, videos, and research reports. The Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium (PCIC) is a regional climate service centre at the University of Victoria that conducts applied research and provides practical information on the physical impacts of climate variability and change in the Pacific and Yukon Region of Canada. We collaborate with climate researchers and regional stakeholders to produce data-based products and online tools in support of long-term planning.

The lab researches innovation and diffusion, benefits, justice and participation for urban, rural, and Indigenous communities in renewable energy transformations.

Climate & Library/GLAM Resources

Libraries, archives, and galleries are involved in the climate crisis at local and international levels. For example, Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) curates a series of modules to raise climate awareness in local communities, and IFLA works with international organizations to be more "meaningfully involved" in climate action.

"Commissioned by the Coalition for Networked Information, this report examines the role of research universities in addressing complex societal challenges. It focuses on climate change, which is best characterized as a “wicked” problem."

"Join the Council on Library and Information Resources(CLIR) Climate Resiliency Action Series to gain critical insights and practical strategies for enhancing climate resilience in your institution, collaborate with experts across diverse fields, and lead your community toward a sustainable future."

"Libraries are encouraged to get more meaningfully involved in reporting on their climate action and making connections beyond the field. Here are some ideas for actions to bring your climate empowerment work to the next level."
