UNITAR (United Nations Institute of Training and Research)/CIFAL/CIFAL Victoria
Definition

CIFAL Victoria is a UNITAR (United Nations Institute of Training and Research) and University of Victoria (UVic) partnership. It is one hub within a larger network of 33 other CIFAL training centers across the globe. It is the first and only CIFAL center on the west coast of North America.[1]
CIFAL Victoria, which builds upon the United Nations (UN)' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP)" focuses on four main themes[1]:
- Oceans, Climate and Sustainability
- Innovation and entrepreneurship
- Decolonization and Indigenous knowledge
- Global health and well-being
Kula & CIFAL Victoria
Kula supports the work and leadership of CIFAL Victoria through a number of initiatives. CIFAL Victoria is an important partner in the implementation of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at UVic. CIFAL-Victoria's focus on climate, innovation, decolonization & Indigenous knowledge, and health are also major concerns in UVic's Strategic Directions as well as Aspiration 2030 in the Office of the VP Research & Innovation.
Kula is developing Library CIFAL Victoria SDG Student Fellowships to support student engagement with the SDGs on campus.
